Economy is bad, and pomelo sellers in Chinatown said they were
being squeezed. Prices of pomeloes had to be cut by as much as
50 per cent to attract buyers. Yet customers were still not tempted.
"We have about 40 per cent less business this year," a stall-owner
said in Mandarin. Some of the smaller pomeloes at his stall were
going for $2, when they had cost $4 last year.
